pgCOMMUNITY GROWTH
INS T I T U T E
March 20,2008
Mayor and City Council
City of Pequot Lakes
4638 County Road 11
Pequot Lakes,MN 56472
Re: Planning Commission Report
Dear Mayor and City Council,
The Planning Commission met for their regularly scheduled March meeting at which they held two public
hearings and reviewed various new and old business matters. The Planning Commission is forwarding the
following recommendation for your consideration:
1. Ordinance Amendment, Signs in City Parks, City of Pequot Lakes. The Pequot Lakes Park
Board has recently asked the City about installing signs to identify City Parks throughout the City of
Pequot Lakes. Under the current City Ordinance this would perhaps not be allowed. The Planning
Commission has approved the language change to the Ordinance. The new language will clearly allow the
Park Board,or any other City department,to install necessary signs.
The following is Section 17-7.1, the Signs, section of the Ordinance, amended as per the Planning
Commissions review.
Section 17-7.1 SIGNS
2. Required Permits. All signs are considered structures and require a Zoning Permit, except
signs placed by the City,County or State to relate the laws or ordinances, or to promote the
health safety and welfare of the community, which are exempt, and signs exempted in
7.1(3).
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions regarding any item contained in this report
or otherwise. We can be reached by phone at (218) 828-3064 or by email at or
marohn@communitygrowth.net.
Sincerely,
COMMUNITY GROWTH INSTITUTE
Charles Marohn,PE
City Planners
CC: Planning Commission
Sandy Peine,City Clerk
Dawn Bittner,Zoning Administrator
14084 Baxter Drive, Suite 7 I Baxter, Minnesota 56425 I 218.828.3064 I www.communitygrowth.com
