Red Book Shelf: The board was also informed about a free book program for children (through <br /> Junior High), at the Pequot Lakes Food Shelf. The public is encouraged to donate children's <br /> books which will be given away, at no cost,to children in our area. <br /> Summer Reading Program: Terri shared that the theme of this year's program was focusing <br /> Minnesota. The posters are out along with notices in the newspaper. Mark said that he had <br /> posted it on Facebook also. June 2nd is registration with about 100 expected to participate in <br /> the program. <br /> Library Card Program for Children: Nancy introduced a policy of providing free library cards to <br /> children through the senior year. Currently, students may be included in the family's card or <br /> have their own at a one-time cost of$5.00. The purpose is to encourage reading and use of the <br /> library system. Rene moved and Terri seconded the motion to begin the program. Motion <br /> carried. <br /> Kitchigami Speakers and Musicians: Kristi Taylor is our contact for programs involving various <br /> topics along with musical features to be held at the Cole Memorial Building and the library. <br /> Nancy indicated she was pleased with the partnership our library has with the Kitchigami <br /> organization. <br /> Author and Artists: Also discussed was the Author and Artist walkabout at the Jack Pine <br /> Center. Ann indicated the Bobber Art Fair is held at the same location. Authors' events have <br /> not been well attended in the past,which have been held at the library. Ann encouraged <br /> support for the art and author events at the Jack Pine. Board members may wish to tour and be <br /> at the event. <br /> Potential Land Acquisition: Tom Adams shared that discussion by the Friends of the Library <br /> Board has begun concerning the purchase of the lot behind the library. Sheila Holley is working <br /> on a valuation process for the land as the owner has been approached about the purchase. At <br /> this time it is in a very preliminary stage. The land would be used for further expansion of the <br /> facility and or outdoor learning and activities. <br /> Meeting Adjourned at 5:50PM by Chair, Mark Jurchen. <br />
