RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 2008 <br /> Recommendation #1: Updates to the City's Fee Schedule <br /> The 2006 annual report recommended some revisions to the City's fee schedule to bring <br /> fees more in line for application review costs. These fee increases focused mostly on <br /> recovering public hearing costs for Conditional Use Permit applications and costs <br /> associated with the implementation of the Design Review Team for new plats. In 2008, <br /> a review should be conducted of the City's fee schedule, especially fees for Land Use <br /> Permit applications, to review the need for revision or adjustment to reflect actual <br /> application review costs. <br /> Recommendation #2: Study and Develop Plan for Highway Alignment Area <br /> As the Planning Commission indicated in late 2007, the need for further study and <br /> planning for the Highway 371 alignment area has become increasingly important. This <br /> study, with subsequent planning, would be a proactive approach to managing land <br /> resources in this area and help guide its development as the City moves closer to the <br /> future date of construction of the highway. <br /> Recommendation #3: Prepare for Comprehensive Plan Update <br /> The City's comprehensive plan will be five years old in 2008. Updating the plan will <br /> `..- provide the City with updated analysis of land use, development patterns, demographics <br /> and future development goals of the City and should be included in the budget and <br /> planning schedule for 2009. The effort needed will be much less intense than the last <br /> time since the City has had ongoing planning and implementation processes and will not <br /> have to start from nothing this time. <br /> Recommendation #4: Establish Downtown"Grow Zone" <br /> With the Planning Commission expected to conclude a reworking of the Downtown Plan <br /> shortly, thought should be given on how to make implementation a priority. One <br /> strategy would be to work with the City's new formed Economic Development <br /> Committee and Planning Commission to establish a "Grow Zone" in downtown Pequot <br /> Lakes.
