The Honorable Cathy Malecha
Mayor of Pequot Lakes
Page 2
January 14, 2008
economic impact of a bypass will have on the City of Pequot Lakes. I believe that the work that
you and your staff have done over the last year to understand these impacts and eventually make
a decision based on the findings, is beyond what is typically done by communities that face
challenges such as this. Often times the study of these impacts are left up to those who are not
as familiar with the community and the issues they face. Our intention as we address this topic
in the Supplemental EIS is to rely heavily on the decision by the City Council to endorse the
bypass alignment and that it will not cause lasting negative social and economic impacts to the
City of Pequot Lakes.
I appreciate the close working relationship that Mn/DOT and the City have developed over the
Iast few years. In particular, I feel the Highway 371 Study Group sessions for bath alternatives
were extremely valuable. I would like suggest that we continue these types of meetings in order
to keep the city involved as Mn/DOT focuses in on the final layout and eventually moves into
the Municipal Consent phase.
I look forward to working with you to continue to move this project forward. As always, please
feel free to call me at anytime if you have questions.
Sin ,
Timothy V.
