AGENDA ITEM # 9.3
City of
Pequot
Lakes____
REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL
Report Prepared by: Rich Spiczka
Date: May 3, 2022
Subject: Coleman Drive Update
Report: City Staff was able to spend some time with some long time property
owners in the affected area to get a feel for how the road has changed, what
impacts that has had and to listen to some of the concerns. Through these
conversations we learned a few things:
• The Road used to flood entirely pretty much every year at the lowest
point.
• The flooding stopped when a bunch of fill was reused in that area in the
late 90's.
• As that area was elevated so were portions of the road closer to Pequot
Blvd making steep banks on both sides of Coleman Drive.
• The adding of material has created a wider base, which has created a
loss of vegetation and also a larger surface area for catching and
directing water.
• The paving of Pequot Blvd has likely been one of the bigger impacting
factors as now water from a paved road runs right to the
Coleman/Pequot Blvd intersection from all 3 directions. In our research
it wasn't until this took place that anyone can remember the road
washing out.
• Discussions and alternatives discussed that involve safety and
environmental impacts while keeping costs down.
Council Action Requested: Just general discussion on the project, what council
thinks, etc.
