Sergeant Franz and Officer Fyle of the Pequot Lakes Police Department are certified,
Paramedics. Although they may not respond with all the equipment that a traditional ambulance
carries, they have some of the equipment needed for critical calls where seconds can mean the
difference in surviving a medical emergency.
In the past, both officers carried advanced capability heart monitors. These monitors have
the AED function to shock a person's heart that has stopped beating, take blood pressures,
monitor oxygen levels in the bloodstream, and look at a person's heart rhythm and other
advanced features. When a person is suffering from a heart attack,it often changes the electrical
activity in the heart. When emergency responders can identify these changes in the field, they
can call for a helicopter to transport the victim to a specialized hospital that can correct the
problem. The ability to save precious minutes for these victims often means the difference
between life and death.
Unfortunately, the two heart monitors that Sergeant Franz and Officer Fyle previously
carried are outdated and can no longer be repaired. The cost of a LIFEPAK15,which is the
current model that has been refurbished,is approximately$10,000,which is much less than the
price of a new unit which is more than$30,000.
Officers with the Pequot Lakes Police Department have been instrumental in the
successful resuscitation of several community members. Obtaining a new heart
monitor/defibrillator will allow our officers to continue providing high-level services for the.
citizens of Pequot Lakes.
ntiliMilliallit
. m 6G -- team! i .rn-^
i5 - _ Yi
:'37A /'_ 11
- ' j -
1.Be
