City Council Minutes
February 3, 2014
--------------------------
Chief Klang explained that he has contacted the City of Emily to suggest
that the City of Pequot Lakes provide police services to Emily. The police
services would consist of hiring, supervision, training, licensing, benefits,
payroll, insurance, workers compensation, phone service, E-Charging,
permit to purchase applications and house watch checks. He stated that
the officer would work approximately 30 hours per week which would
include 780 administrative hours per year. Chief Klang stated that this is a
pilot project and he wants to ensure it is beneficial to both cities.
The Council had a concern regarding whether the City would make
enough money to pay for the services provided to Emily. Another concern
related to who would be responsible for the administrative work. Chief
Klang stated that it would not be a hardship on him or on the office
manager. The Council questioned whether it was wise to move forward
with this considering the turmoil in Pequot police staffing.
The Council also discussed the fact that this is a good opportunity to
collaborate with other agencies.
COUNCIL MEMBER GARDNER MOVED TO PURSUE PROVIDING
POLICE SERVICES TO THE CITY OF EMILY. COUNCIL MEMBER
AKERSON SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 4-1.
COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD VOTED AGAINST THE MOTION.
9. Public Works
9.1.
