L
810 5th Street
Ann Arbor, MI 48103
20 November 2009
Ms. Sandy Peine
City Clerk
4638 County Road 11
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
seethe eecL otlakes- mn.gov
Dear Ms. Peine,
As per your advice, I am writing a letter to request the City of Pequot Lakes to vacate the
section of Front Street goes through my land west from the old dump site to the closed access
on State Highway 371.
I own property where the City closed off access to 371 (Parcel Number 290101300A00009) and
this closure has severely reduced its value. During a recent visit, I found out about the road
closure and I also discovered that the city street (Front Street) going through my property has
been abandoned at the edge of my property (at the edge of the old dump site) going west to
371. This section of Front Street is no longer maintained; the asphalt is crumbling and potholes
are forming (I have emailed a photo taken in October 2009). 1 also own 0.25 acres (Parcel
Number 290101400600009) that lies west of the Railroad right -of -way, now the Paul Bunyan
Trail, and to the east of the old dump site.
I have enclosed a copy of a map with my land outlined in red. Unfortunately, the aerial map
and the survey map showing my property lines (in red) also show that Front Street cuts through
my property and not between the sections. MDOT said this was a scaling problem but it is
possible that Front Street runs through south area of my parcel and not between the areas. If
the road were vacated, I assume this could all be consolidated into one land area.
I request that the City of Pequot Lakes legally and officially vacate this section of Front Street
going west from the old dump site to 371. This vacation would allow me to consolidate my
property that is now divided by the abandoned Front Street. This consolidation would make it
more saleable. I recently paid $1000 to clear up junk that the public had put on my land
because it was adjacent to the old city dump. I would like to be able to sell this property, which
would keep it on the tax rolls.
Please let me know about vacating the street and if you need any further information.
Thank yolvior your consider on,
Beverly Rathcke
Phone: 734- 994 -9147
kJrathcke '@umich.edu
