AGENDA ITEM #7.1
City of
Pequot
Lakes=
REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL
Report Prepared by: Tom Nelson
Date: January 5, 2021
Sub_ject: New Chassis for Tanker 3
Report:
The PLFD has been trying to get a newer chassis for Tanker 3. Currently Tanker 3
is a DNR excess property purchase. It is a 1984 Mack Truck chassis with a 3700
gallon water tank. We purchased the truck from the DNR in 2005 for $1750. This
truck does not meet NFPA standards for Fire Apparatus and needs to be replaced.
We have the opportunity to upgrade the truck chassis through the same DNR
program (excess property purchase). The chassis is a 2009 Freightliner, 6 wheel
drive, heavy duty frame with 2000 miles. The purchase price is $7000.
Our plan is to remove the water tank from the 1984 Mack and move it to the
Freightliner. Some modifications will be necessary to the Freightliner to
accommodate the water tank. Great Plains Fire has modified these chassis before
for other departments and we plan to use their services to modify this chassis.
Replacing this tanker through this process will assist in our truck rotation at a much
lower cost than purchasing a new tanker.
Council Action Requested:
1. Approve contract with DNR to purchase the 2009 Freightliner chassis for $7000
2. Approve the use of Great Plains Fire to modify the chassis on the Freightliner to
accommodate water tank, remove tank from 1984 Mack, install on Freightliner
chassis, paint and upgrade the truck to NFPA 1901 standards for Fire
Apparatus. Approx. cost $65,000.00
