City Council Minutes November 10, 2020 Page 6 of 7 ----------------------------- Ms. Duus stated that in October 2020 Jerry Akerson passed away. She summarized the following Council options for their consideration. • The Council must declare a vacancy • The Council can appoint an officeholder to resume duties and attend council meetings • The appointment process could entail a public notice to citizens informing them of this vacancy and request resumes or letters of interest, or such other process as the Council determines. Council discussion ensued regarding accepting applications and allowing the new council to select the new Council Member. Ms. Duus stated the goal would be to appoint the person at the January City Council Meeting. MAYOR TAYLOE MOVED TO ADOPT RESOLUTION 20-38 DECLARING A CITY COUNCIL VACANCY. COUNCIL MEMBER SWANSON SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 3-0. MAYOR TAYLOE MOVED TO ACCEPT LETTERS OF INTEREST UNTIL DECEMBER 20, 2020 AND HAVE THE NEW COUNCIL APPOINT THE SEAT ON THE JANUARY 5, 2021 COUNCIL MEETING. COUNCIL MEMBER PEDERSON SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 3-0. 10.7 Board of Canvass COUNCIL MEMBER SWANSON MOVED TO ADOPT RESOLUTION 20- 37 CANVASSING THE NOVEMBER 3, 2020 MUNICIPAL GENERAL ELECTION RESULTS. COUNCIL MEMBER PEDERSON SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 3-0. 10.8 2021 Preliminarv Budaet Ms. Duus stated the County has not completed the proposed tax rate information as of today. Ms. Duus inquired if the Council would like to schedule a special budgeting meeting or to wait until the December 1 St meeting. The consensus of the Council will be hold off budget discussion until the December meeting. 11. Other Business There was no other business. 12.
