Pequot Lakes Police Dept.
Report to the City Council
July 29, 2009
Currently for the month of July the Department has logged more than 753 individual ICRs.
Current Activities:
The Reserves, Part time and Full time Officers conducted more than 845 individual security checks of
businesses and homes so far throughout the month, with 4 open doors found at area businesses.
On July 25th the Reserves conducted their 2nd Dog Clinic at the Jenkins City Park. Again they offered
area dog owners a chance to get their dog licensed at a discount as well as meet with area businesses
that carry products for or conduct services for canines, such as vets, pet supply retailers, trainers.
The whole Department participated in the activities for the 4th of July holiday. Officers assisted during
the fireworks with traffic control, due to several area streets being under construction and impassible at
the time. Neighboring law enforcement from Breezy Point and Pine River assisted with traffic control as
well as 2 members from the Reserve Officer Unit from Akeley for foot patrol and crowd safety during
the parade.
Officer Hogan was instrumental in getting the Legion Patriot Patrol to come from southern Minnesota to
participate in our local 4th of July parade. Several of the veterans and their wives camped out over night
at the Trailside Center and the whole group had breakfast at the Fire Dept's pancake breakfast. After
our parade some of the rides then went to Walker to participate in their 4th of July activities as well.
I...' Training:
July 23rd: Officers Petersen, Ryan, Melberg and Gartner along with Chief Braam all participated in
an Active Shooter training that was conducted at the Pequot Lakes High / Middle
schools by the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office.
Significant Cases:
Officer Gartner had a DWI arrest, which resulted in a forfeiture of a vehicle on Monday, July
27th. While on route to the jail in Brainerd he pulled over another vehicle because of driving
conduct and the vehicle speeding up to 80 mph, which resulted in a second DWI arrest of a 19
yr old. This second arrest was passed on to the Baxter Police Dept.
Officer Melberg assisted the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office with the search for the missing 2
yr old that was located in the woods south of the Gull Lake Dam Rd.
Officer Melberg assisted Crow Wing County Probation Dept by locating and arresting a person
with multiple felony probation violations.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jerry Braam
Chief of Police
