PEQUOT CITY COUNCIL: <br /> FR: Scott Pederson, Councilor <br /> Notes: Main points of the proposed resolution below. <br /> 1. All business in Pequot Lakes are ESSENTIAL <br /> 2. If SOME Pequot Lakes businesses are open ALL stores must be treated the same <br /> 3. If products are sold at other stores in our area, Pequot Lakes businesses must have the <br /> same opportunity <br /> 4. This resolution is not meant to be a constitutional argument or challenge, the intent is to <br /> provide fairness and uphold the constitutional rights of our citizens <br /> Key point: The Lakefield resolution is mostly pointed at a constitutional argument. I agree with <br /> our city attorney's comment to "consider a more positive tone towards supporting local <br /> residents and businesses while also following the guidelines from the CDC. " <br /> RESOLUTION AND PROCLAMATION: <br /> PEQUOT LAKES IS OPEN FOR BUSINESSES <br /> Whereas, some Pequot Lakes businesses have not been forced to close by State Order or <br /> restricted in their operations and are open to the public,ALL Pequot Lakes businesses shall <br /> have the same opportunity to be open for business. <br /> Whereas, some businesses within Crow Wing County remain open to sell same or similar <br /> products as businesses in Pequot Lakes, ALL Pequot Lakes businesses shall have the same <br /> opportunity to be open for business. <br /> Whereas, ALL businesses in the Pequot Lakes business community are essential and vital to <br /> the social and economic life of the city, ALL Pequot Lakes businesses shall have the right to be <br /> open for business. <br /> Therefore we resolve and proclaim: Pequot Lakes to be open for business as we uphold our <br /> community, our business, and individual rights. And our"citizens of their rights and privileges <br /> including the freedom of religion, the freedom to assemble, freedom of association,their <br /> property rights, and their right to the pursuit of happiness" <br /> To allow ALL Pequot Lakes businesses to open that choose to open. <br /> Businesses must follow MDH, CDC and OSHA workplace safety practices and guidelines: <br /> (including but not limited to: social distancing, hygiene, facial coverings, <br /> on-site sanitation, limit numbers in store etc) <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED AND PROCLAIMED: <br /> That the City Council supports the choice of all residents to continue to stay at home or <br /> the choice to move about freely within the City and to support the economy of Pequot <br /> Lakes while maintaining behaviors to preserve the health and safety of all residents; <br /> That the City Council encourages all citizens and visitors to follow MDH, CDC, and OSHA <br /> guidelines for social distancing and general conduct while out in public. <br />
