Public Works Monthly Report
April 2009
Spring is here again and so are the vandals. We have had our first
round of damages at city parks already. Posts have been removed in Sibley
Lake Park and a cedar picnic table was destroyed in Trailside Park.
This month we had an energy audit on City Hall conducted by Energy
Management Solutions Inc., a company contracted by Minnesota Power
Company. I have recently received the report and will be meeting with a
company representative soon on cost saving projects on different equipment
to bring down our electrical demands.
This month has been a rough month on the repair portion of the budget
with several large scale break downs in the sewer and water departments.
• A repair of a sewer service line in the Industrial Park turned into a
repair on a 1 V2" copper water service line that had been leaking,
possibly for years. The good news is that both repairs were made.
The bad news is that it broke under the curb at Morehouse Drive,
which is a ten -ton road (costing more to repair).
• There was a break in the underground cable feeding a pivot site at the
irrigation field. It took three different locator contractors to find it
before it could be repaired.
• Then there was a break in the shaft of one of the irrigation pumps that
supply the irrigation pivots.
All three repairs are now in one way or another being handled and are
functional.
I was contacted by the Chamber of Commerce regarding a remodel of the
Trailside building, which they are proposing. A copy of the plans is attached.
Meetings Attended
April 4 -7 MMUA Safety Group Meeting in Pine River
Met Senior Group at Cole Building
`, Council Meeting
