11
April 16, 2009
Mayor and City Council
City of Pequot Lakes
4638 County Road 11
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
Re: Planning Commission Report
Dear Mayor and City Council,
COMMUNITYGROWTH
I N S T I T U T E
Experts in Small Town Planning
The Planning Commission met for their March meeting at which there were not any public
hearings. There is nothing that requires your action at this time.
The Planning Commission is working on two major initiatives, awaiting moving forward on the
Comprehensive Plan update process. The first is further development of the Grow Zone
concept, the aim of which is to reduce and streamline the amount of regulation in the
downtown. We are responding to feedback from council members, business owners and the
public to ensure that the land use regulations we have in place promote growth, protect
investments made in the downtown and create a sense -of- place.
The second is a study of potential zoning configurations along the alternate alignment. In
specific, we are examining the cost the City would incur for different approaches in comparison
to the benefits in terms of tax base. The Planning Commission is seeking to develop some
recommendations, building off of the TH 371 Study Group report, that will be able to inform
future planning and zoning decisions along the alignment.
If you have any questions, concerns or feedback, please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be
reached by phone at (866) 900 -3064 or by email at or marohn(@communilygrowth.net.
Sincerely,
COMMUNITY GROWTH INSTITUTE
Charles Marohn, PE AICP
City Planner
CC: Planning Commission
`..
