From: Elissa Rogers [elissa @bladc.org]
`-- Sent: Friday, March 06, 2009 2:23 PM
To: tim.houle @co.crow - wing.mn.us; 'Jeremy Vacinek'; Sandy Peine; 'Cindy Nelson;
'Janie Weston'
Subject: Neighborhood Stabilization Program Update
Attachments: MHF Grant Denial Letter.pdf
Dear Community Leaders,
Attached you will find the denial letter from Minnesota Housing Finance (MHF) regarding
the City of Brainerd ❑s request for Neighborhood Stabilization Program funds for Crow
Wing County (CWC) communities. BLADC contacted MHF to determine why the
application was denied and to obtain feedback for future direction. The application
scored well but the process was very competitive with $18+ million in requests and only
$6 million to expend. The following was shared about the application:
• It required targeted areas to be extremely focused,
• Evidence of greatest need and impact, and
• A larger amount of committed funds to leverage the NSP program.
BLADC found the housing application process to be challenging due to minimal
experience with housing programs, terms, and the overall intricacies. We recommend
that full time Housing and Redevelopment Authority staff consider pursuing future
housing grant programs for CWC communities.
Thank you for your support while we explored this process.
Sincerely,
Sheila and Elissa
Elissa Rogers
Economic Development Specialist
Brainerd Lakes Area Development Corporation
124 North 6th Street
Brainerd, MN 56401
(218) 828 -0096
elissa @bladc.org
OR
