PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT <br /> MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 7, 2009 MEETING <br /> The monthly meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 29 members <br /> were present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved by a motion by <br /> Evenson, second by Zeimet, motion passed. <br /> Truck and equipment checks were discussed. Engine 1 was good. The gas monitor we <br /> have been having all the trouble with was repaired and we were billed. This should have <br /> been under warranty. The transmission fluid was low one quart and was filled. Engine 2 <br /> was also good and now has new lanterns and a portable radio mounted in the cab. Tanker <br /> 1 was good. Tanker 2 was also good. The tank leak will be checked tomorrow with Keith <br /> Bunker. Tanker 3 was good and the back-up alarm works tonight. Rescue 1 and 2 were <br /> both good. Grass 1 was good and the heater worked good tonight. Grass 2 headlight fuse <br /> blew again and was replaced. Water tender 1 was good and needs the check sheet redone. <br /> The ATV and trailer were both good. <br /> The financial report listed our new checking balance tonight at $9101.01. During the <br /> month we paid $60.64 for pop and $500.00 for the scholarship for 2009. The new <br /> scholarship fund balance is $1300.65. The fire fund year end balance was $57678.26. <br /> Wendt motioned to approve the financial report, second by Hayes, motion passed. <br /> The Chief introduced Tom Ryan, our new City Council representative to the fire <br /> department. <br /> Donations for the fire fund received recently include $100.00 from Craig and Claire <br /> Nagel and $4000.00 from a family foundation not identified. <br /> There was discussion if we should advertise with a school activities calendar fund raiser. <br /> A decision was made not to participate. <br /> Safety topics tonight reminds us when we are responding to a call with our personal <br /> vehicles we have to obey all traffic laws and pull over and stop for emergency vehicles <br /> following you. We are not authorized to speed when responding to emergencies. We are <br /> liable for tickets and fines if we fail to obey traffic laws and disciplinary action may be <br /> taken by the fire department officers. More safety reminders are if you are pulling down <br /> sheetrock or paneled ceilings during an incident, there may be lots of water on top of the <br /> sheets which would cause the whole sheet to drop at once and cause injuries. Also, we <br /> need to be aware of back-up power generators which could be present in any building we <br /> might assume the main power supply is out of service. During the winter season, be <br /> aware of icy road conditions which may cause a vehicle to skid out of control any where. <br /> Try not to be caught in a situation where you are between highway traffic and any parked <br /> vehicles. When using fire hydrants in the winter, they need to be shut off when done <br /> using them and back drained so they do not freeze. Also when using the hydrant, it <br />
