Jenkins Township
CROW WING COUNTY, MINNESOTA
PO Bog 523, Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
To the City Council of Pequot Lakes,
The elections this year in Jenkins Township were probably a record in numbers, but
especially in votes cast for township officials. The big issue without a doubt was the annexation,
which was thoroughly contested throughout the year. It is clear that annexation was the major
issue by the record turnouts, not only at our town board meetings, but yours and Jenkins City as
well. It fairly dominated the agendas for all three municipalities for half the year. The results of
the election indicate clearly that the sentiment and will of the people at this time is to remain a
township.
This is not to indicate that we have any resentment or animosity towards the City of
Pequot Lakes, but that we feel the need to be our own entity as long as we can, taking care of our
people and problems closer to home. We welcome the opportunity to work with the cities of
Pequot Lakes and Jenkins to further the best interest of the entire area. We also thank the city for
their understanding of the situation and the integrity to set this issue aside until we can work out
our problems.
The outcome of the election is a clear mandate by the people and we believe were elected
by the people for the specific purpose of maintaining our township. Therefore, be it resolved that
we (the elected Town Board of Jenkins Township) are formally withdrawing the petition for
annexation presently tabled by your city council.
Thank you very much.
Respectfully yours,
Jenkins Township Board
