Municipal Consent Public Hearing Written Comments
November 16, 2010, Addendum to Council Minutes
Page 8 of 33
killed. Problem always is the people passing in the right turn lane only, so I am
glad they are going to put in a four lane, my suggestion would be for a by pass
starting at the Co road 29. Thank you for your time...
30. Jack and Margaret LaBarre
Our address is Pequot Lakes but we do not live in the city of Pequot lakes. We do
feel that it is our community as much of our life is focused there. We wish to
express our desire to see the 371 bypass route..... believing that going through
town has more negative impact including safety, cost, and the loss of the beautiful
small town environment.
31. Todd and Vicki Trees - 5925 Pedersion Road, Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
Supporters of the 371 bypass - We reside in the City of Pequot Lakes and would
like to formally go on record as supporters of the current HWY 371 bypass plan.
We have lived in the area for over twenty years and have resided in Pequot Lakes
for the past fifteen years. We believe that the bypass is the safest and most
economical solution to accommodate the four lane road. In addition to safely and
economics, the by pass will allow the downtown area of Pequot Lakes to foster a
sense of community and grow business.
32. Joseph and Terri Morris - 28890 Hurtig Road, Pequot Lakes, MN. 56472
Joe and I (Terri) are unable to attend and would like to submit that we do not wish
to see 371 go through the town of Pequot Lakes. Thank -You
33. Jonathan Yahn - Rural Pequot Lakes
The community leaders in Pequot Lakes have an opportunity to tone down the
rhetoric surrounding the Highway 371 improvement project. For much too long
now, this issue has divided our community. People on both sides feel
passionately that their view of the best course for the highway should prevail.
Those that favor the through -town route may feel particularly frustrated because
they thought that the issue was decided some years ago by a previous city
council. Now the bypass route seems to be on the fast track —at least for final
approval.
..,*N
Thoughtful, reasonable people can come to different conclusions about the best
route. Some, like myself, don't have a strong preference, but recognize that the
decisions that we make today may have a significant impact on our community
for many, many years. And a decision surely must be made. Once it's made, be
assured that many won't like it. That consequence comes with the responsibility
of effective leadership; many choices that the council will make are bound to
anger someone. So I am not suggesting that this council can possibly make a
decision that will be palatable to everyone. It can't. But I strongly believe that --
there is little harm in stepping back —once again —and reexamining all reasonable
