we are not recommending any major drainage improvements; although a final design may <br />`-- indicate the need for some minimal ditching or other related work. <br />The City Standards speak to the coordination between and the use of safe horizontal <br />alignments and vertical profiles for the roadway. The existing roadway appears to follow the <br />existing terrain. We have not done any sight line or braking distance calculations, as to make <br />any significant changes could be an expensive proposition. No one has told us about any safety <br />concerns, and from field drive - throughs, it appears the horizontal and vertical alignments are <br />suitable for this roadway. <br />The City Standards call for a minimum of 4 inches of Class 5 aggregate base and 2 inches of <br />bituminous surfacing. We did not do any field measurements of existing Class 5 aggregate base <br />n / surfacing. We could do this should the City Council wish to prepare plans and specifications for <br />public bidding of these improvements. For the purposes of this study, we have used an <br />approximate 2 -inch thick "sweetening" of Class 5 aggregate base. In coordination with above <br />roadbed widths, We are recommending a 22 -feet wide aggregate base and 22 -feet wide <br />jj pavement for this segment of North Sluetter Road. <br />I � <br />The final portion of the City Standards calls for addressing erosion and establishing vegetation. <br />While there are many erosion control requirements, which do cost money, we are not <br />anticipating a lot of topsoil or seed as we are trying to minimize disturbance along the existing <br />roadbed. <br />To summarize, the proposed improvements for this segment of North Sluetter Road include the <br />following: <br />• 2 -inch thick 22 -foot wide paved surface <br />• Approximate 2 -inch thick "sweetening" of a 22 -foot wide Class 5 aggregate base <br />• Approximate 1 -foot wide Class 5 aggregate shoulders <br />• Use of the existing roadbed <br />• Minimal clearing and roadway ditching <br />• Erosion control during construction <br />• Minimal turf restoration <br />Pequot Lakes — North Sluetter Road Improvements Study <br />WSN No. 0130130045.000 Page 7 <br />
