This ATV is to be used by jointly by the Breezy Point Police and the Pequot Lakes Fire Department. Upon receipt of the ATV the BPPD invested their own money from their budget to add the following items: rubber tracks so the ATV could be used year round, a winch, and a stokes basket holder (for rescues). These items added up to over $7,000. After using the ATV for a year, it has been discovered that the tracks create a mess for the driver and passenger (mud and snow were being thrown up into the air and into the cab of the ATV). This created a safety issue for the driver and passenger. The PLFD offered to help with the purchase of the cab enclosure to ensure the safety of the driver and passenger. The PLFD set a maximum price of $2700 for the enclosure, the total cost came to $3051.55; the BPPD is paying the difference of $351.55 in order to make this purchase happen. This is a project between two different agencies working together to share equipment. We have used this ATV in 5 different incidents so far. The BPPD is working on purchasing a new, safer trailer for the ATV at this time. We (PLFD) have access to its use whenever needed. It is a much needed item and if we were to purchase one on our own, the cost would be well over $18,000. Action required: Approve payment of $2,700 to Northland Dairy for the purchase of a cab for the ATV. We have the funds for this in our operating supplies budget. Thank you, Tom Nelson, Chief
