City of
Pequot
Lakes
Public Works Department Monthly Report
NOVEMBER REPORT—prepared in prep for the December 4th, 2018 Council Mtg.
By Jason Gorr—City of Pequot Lakes Public Works Director
Parks Department: After prepping for the winter season (blowing pine needles in parks, moving
snowmobile hazards/benches/tables, shutting off water, removing summer items), staff rented a pull-
behind bucket lift and worked to hang holiday lighting in Trailside Park with some help from Park Board
Volunteers, arrange for pole banners, and maintain flags as needed. Snow removal and sanitation were
addressed as needed. Preventative maintenance was performed on and to items placed in storage
included all the lawnmowers, weed whips, and hand tools.
Streets Department: Some of the major time demands of course were prepping equipment for winter
season including extensive plow prep and maintenance on the Mack/Sterling Trucks and also the 1-tons
and Skid Steer. This included new(wear) Edges as needed and drive tire replacement on the Sterling.
Large trucks were also converted from summer shouldering work equipment to salt/sand spreading
equipment as well as mounting the pickup based salt spreader(on 2015 F350). Each p/u was outfitted
with shovels, pry bars, salt buckets/scoops,and plows mounted/tested.
Other streets related winter prep included developing procedure for new staff and routes, driving and
examining/training routes, and strategizing how best to handle and prioritize the new'turn backs'. (Just
for reference the new 6 miles of total roads equates to rough/y 36 miles of total new maintenance routes
(6 pass roads including turn lanes and total widthsJ which is a considerable adjustment from previous
responsibilities for the department. These roads are also a much higher rate of speed and traffic so they
need to be addressed accordingly.)
Buildings: Routine maintenance and sanitation was performed in relation to normal `rounds' and
specific requests, many of which were holiday related. MAJOR time and efforts went into converting the
full time shop location from the former City Hall building to the new location on Derksen Road. All the
tools, equipment, supplies, furniture, etc. had to be moved, organized, and supplemented to
accommodate the new facility. Several remaining contractor items were addressed and staff
familiarized, which of course is an ongoing process. Racking Assembly, Pressure Washer Use, office
furniture, computers/printer were all assembled and ordered as needed.
Other: Cemetery markings(rows/roads)for winter as well as one cremation grave were done. 2
snowfalls(2"+) happened and although they weren't up to policy standards for a full `snow event'
(requires 3"+),we still salted/sanded/plowed major effected areas as needed including roads, lots,
walkways. New staff hiring occurred also (Dalton Engholm).
Water and Wastewater Report: -already in your packets
