Clerk's August 2010 Staff Report
---------------------------------- - - - - --
PROJECTS:
Elections — The Primary Election was held on August 10th. Pequot Lakes had a voter turn
out of 16% - 197 voters out of 1,229 registered voters. The registration judges registered
15 new voters. Although this seems like a low turn out, this is typical of a primary
election.
I expect the General Election to have a much higher turnout. At the last General Election
in 2008, the registration judges registered 287 new voters and there were 1,127 voters
which is a 74% voter turnout.
Filing for Office — Filing for municipal office closed on August 17th . The following is a
list of candidates for the Council and Mayor races:
MAYOR
• Nancy Adams
• Brenda Myers
• Jack Schmidt
COUNCIL MEMBER — 4 YEAR TERM — (two seats open)
' • Jerry Akerson
• John Derksen
• Sean Kaneski
• Scott Pederson
• Dave Sjoblad
• Wes Wilson
Budgets — At the Budget work session, the Council reviewed the preliminary budgets and
made recommendations for reducing the levy amount. Nancy Malecha and I have met
with department heads to review the Council recommendations. The Council must set a
preliminary levy by September 15th. We are hoping that this can be set at the September
7th Council meeting.
Office Remodeling — The Clerk's office has planned a small office remodeling project.
The purpose of the project is to enlarge the Finance Director's office. The project will
also include purchase of modular furniture for the office. The cost of the remodel and
furniture is a budgeted item and will come out of the Clerk's budget. The maintenance
department will be doing the remodeling.
Clerk's Staff
• Reports from the Clerk's staff are attached
NO
