Sandy Peine
'7rom:
Tommy Woog [tmmy @waterwars.com]
sent:
Monday, December 12, 2011 10:07 AM
To:
Dawn Bittner; Sandy Peine; Nancy Adams
Cc:
Charles Marohn
Subject:
Number of P &Z commissioners
Dear City Council & Planning Commission members,
I see the public hearing has been set to re- evaluate the number of Planning Commission
members from 7 to 5. As a former member of the Commission from before the City of Pequot
merged with Sibley Township through recent times, I can tell you from personal experience
the value of 7 members. There were many times when the "old" City's Planning Commission
met and failed to garner a quorum, thereby rendering our ability to act efficiently and
meet the needs of the community, especially when businesses rely of us to make decisions
in a timely manner!
After the City and Township merged, we actually went to 11 members, and then pared it down
to 7. The value of 7 members not only lessened our likelihood of not having a quorum (I
can actually never remember NOT having a quorum in nearly 10 years of having the larger
commission size), but it also gave us a far greater cross section of our community when
reviewing applications before the City. This allows us to hear more voices, more
opinions, and make better decisions for the community as a whole.
I understand the difficult economic times we all live in, but the cost savings, in my
opinion, do not outweigh the value of a larger commission as stated above and so I would
urge you to keep a seven member board for the long term health and benefit of Pequot
Lakes.
est regards,
Tommy Woog
1
