The
list was discussed by Economic Development Commission. There were 68 requests for a
swimming pool. Cindy Rieck explained that City of Waseca has a pool and a water park
and that they are a huge success. Cindy offered to get more information from the City of
Waseca on the pool and water park. Ed Larsen stated that a pool project must be a joint
effort with the school and surrounding areas. He stated that it would be very nice to have
but also very expensive. Ed Larsen suggested looking at the City of Waite Park where
there is a water park without a pool.
Comprehensive Plan Update
The EDC discussed the recent amendments made to the economic development section of
the comp plan. The discussion mainly centered on the "Financial Incentives" section. The
EDC felt that during the last two meetings, it was made clear that the EDC would prefer
that the financial incentives not be specifically stated in the comp plan, but that this be
dealt with in the Business Subsidy Policy. The EDC spoke about the possibility of having
conflicting documents and making it more difficult for developers seeking business
subsidy.
