PEQUOT LAKES AREA FIRE BOARD MINUTES OF THE JULY 28, 2010 MEETING The quarterly meeting of the PLAFB was called to order by Chair Peterson. Jack Johnson, representing Pelican Township, and Joe Rudberg, city admininstator /clerk from Breezy Point, were welcomed to the meeting. The minutes of the last meeting were not read. Bob Littman motioned to approve the minutes as written, second by Bob McNerney, motion passed. The second quarter fire call report totaled 13 calls. By types, there were 6 good intent, 4 grass, 1 motor vehicle, 1 motor vehicle accident/rescue, and 1 mutual aid structure. By location, there were 4 to Pequot lakes, 3 to Breezy Point, 2 to Loon Lake Township, 1 to Jenkins City, 1 to Jenkins Township, l to Pelican Township, and 1 to Nisswa. Last year there were 22 calls during this same period. There will be a house burn training in Poplar Township on Sunday, August 8h starting at about 9:00 am. Anyone is welcome to attend and see how this is done. The old Moose Lake Township hall may also be a bum possibility. Training for the quarter totaled 15 hours. By type, there were 4 hours driver's training, 3 hours pump truck operation with water shuttle, 3 hours auto extrication, 3 hours water supply with hydrants and portable tanks, and 2 hours driver training simulator. The second quarter financial report was discussed. Professional service fees were for the grant writer and were a one time expense for the year. Repairs and maintenance were unusually high due to a portable pump damaged during an extremely cold day in January. The damage was paid for by insurance. Weaver motioned to approve the report, second by Littman, motion passed. The department has ordered equipment to convert our air compressor fill station to high pressure operation. High pressure operation features advantages of time saving, longer time of operation, more compatibility with neighboring fire departments, and a better warranty. We still need to convert or purchase new air masks. Air masks purchased in 2002, or later, are able to be converted. Total estimated cost for new air masks is $120,000.00. The conversion option would be considerably lower. The most critical problem with our present air masks is there are several versions of units purchased over a twenty year time span that have different hose connections and types of regulators. A lease to purchase plan is also available. The decision to make the right decision is not easy. The department has submitted a FEMA grant application for 2011. A thermal imaging camera, wire framed gear lockers, and a heavy duty clothes washer are items we are requesting fording for. Our present camera is over ten years old and obsolete. There is also a Crow Wing County grant application for the required 800 mhz radios. All
