Beverly Miller stated she is opposed to the increase from 46 to 61 units. It is against the
Comp Plan; the area should be natural, scenic and beautiful. Becky Hurst agrees with
that also.
Paul Reichenbach, resident of Middle Cullen Lake, read a prepared letter which is made
part of this record.
Ann Beaver, President of the Cullen Lakes Association, read a prepared letter which is
made part of this record.
John Utter, 6965 Polaris Lane — This was a Mom and Pop Resort; the City wanted it
because it was the only resort in Pequot Lakes. It is getting too commercialized. They
are supposed to be renting these places out; who rents them out? If they are renting them,
there will be more boats on the lake. The Lake is going down hill from over use and will
continue to get worse. Who monitors the rental agreement? Mr. Marohn stated there is
no reporting mechanism to the City. Mr. Steffens stated all the units are being rented, the
new townhomes and the existing cabins. Mr. Hallan stated we don't police it but if it is
going to become an issue, then what do we have to enforce it?
Public Comment closed.
Mr. Hallan stated the 40 mooring slips were dealt with previously and there is no request
to change the number of mooring slips.
Paul Reichenbach asked when the DNR docking plan will be implemented. Mr. Steffens
stated that as they add more slips for the docking plan, the old docks will be removed.
There have never been 40 slips on the property.
Mr. Marohn stated that no one in earlier discussion planned it would take so long to
implement the resort plans.
Chairman Woog asked Mr. Miller what is different in the two plats, the one approved in
2008 and this proposed plat. Mr. Miller stated that there is 30 more lineal feet of building
along the shoreline. It is the same general configuration, same stormwater retention,
same configuration of lots, and the same flow of traffic. There have been no dramatic
changes other than the smaller units.
Chairman Woog asked if the new units have garages. He doesn't see any garages on the
original one.
Mr. Hallan pointed out that Units 12 — 22 there was no change, Units 23 and 24 are
combined into smaller units, 25 — 34 are now duplexes where 6 of the larger ones were.
When asked, Mr. Miller stated the square footages of the new units are 1,066, 1,288 and
1,376; many on the original plat are built at 1,680 sq. ft. The general configuration is
similar to the original plat. They will maintain the same stormwater.
Minutes 12
Pequot Lakes Planning Commission
July 17, 2010
