Mr. Brown asked what the minimum requirements were for a principal structure.
Bittner stated 2o feet in width. Planning Commission Member Norton stated that
would include well and septic. Mr. Brown stated the well and septic were the difficult
requirements to meet.
Planning Commission Member Norton asked if there hadn't been an amendment that
would allow a pole barn without a principle structure. Bittner stated that was in the
Agriculture and Forest Management classifications.
Chair Hallan stated we have the ordinance here for a reason.
Mr. Brown stated if he moves the equipment from the vacant side of the road to the lot
with the principle structure, it will look the same. Mr. Burslie stated he would need to
screen the equipment from the right-of-way and from neighboring properties. When
asked by Mr. Brown, Mr. Burslie stated screning with vegetation or a fence.
Mr. Brown asked how often the equipment needs to be moved so it isn't F.xterior
Storage. Mr. Burslie stated that is not the issue we need to deal with.
Mr. Brown stated the pontoon and most items will fit in the pole barn, but the trailers
and camper will not fit;they are too high.
Planning Commission Member Norton asked if Mr. Brown were to park one truck and
one trailer overnight and drive them to work the next day, if that would be considered
Exterior Storage. Mr. Burslie state he did not believe that would be considered Exterior
Storage, but if it sits there for days at a time, then it would.
Mr. Brown stated he would place the Exterior Storage on his property with the dwelling
and put the truck and trailer and other truck and dump trailer on the other lot.
Planning Commission Member Birch inquired if the City would want to look at
somehow allowing uses on a secondary lot that are allowed on the principle lot. Mr.
Burslie stated the Planning Commission can look at that if that is something you want in
your community.
Mr. Brown asked what he would need to do to get a permit to build a pole barn should
he choose to pay off the property. Mr. Burslie stated he could build a pole barn with
living quarters with a well a septic.
Mr. Brown asked how many days of being parked is considered Exterior Storage. He
was told there is no magic number, but if the trucks and trailers are being moved in and
out every other day, that is not Fterior Storage. Discussion ensued regarding parking
MINUTES 6
Pequot Lakes Planning Commission
August i6, 2oi8
