Tuesday, June 15, 2010
To: City of Pequot lakes
From: Justin Bolz - Andolshek
RE: Letter of Resignation from the Economic Development Commission
EDC Committee and Council Members,
Effective immediately, I am resigning my commission seat in the Pequot Lakes EDC. There
are many factors leading to this decision, but the greatest reason, I do not buy into the direction
that this city is currently heading. Never have I sat in such wonderment of how a city could make a
decision full well knowing that 5 of its citizens would be so adversely impacted, they would need to
change their lives dramatically. My wife and 1, by choice, are about as involved as any one family
can be, businesses, school, city, friends and family. I have given my time to this city, my donations,
my input and my pride, but no longer.
I do not believe that the bypass will make our community better for all and I have a real
problem trying to stay positive and think creatively with this issue looming over us. For most of
you, the location of the highway does not change any part of your day. Not so much for us, my
coffee shop lives off of that highway, and our grocery store, well, we'll see what becomes of it.
Ultimately this committee could have said no to the tax subsidies and that would have been the
right thing to do for one of its citizens. This committee needs to have a member who wants to be
here, and that is no longer me. I will step aside and let someone who buys into your vision of how
to help business figure out the mess that is Pequot Lakes.
Lastly, with regards to my business and the reinvention of Northern Food King, I have been
busy, busy reducing staff. Last week alone, I let go 8 more people. Total layoffs are now at 50% of
my staff. So I am busy reinventing my business, and I will need all of my thoughts and all of my
energy to stay engaged to myself, my family and my business.
Sincerely,
Justin Bolz- Andolshek
