PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
4638 County Road 11 Pequot Lakes, MN 56472 (218)568 -8201 Fax (218)568 -7672
pequotfdna ,pequotlakes -mn. gov
TO: Pequot Lakes Mayor & City Council
FROM: Tom Nelson, Chief Bill Rickard, Assistant Chief
DATE: June 26, 2010
RE: Air Pack Proposal
Proposal:
The Pequot Lakes Fine Department is in need of new air packs. We have tried unsuccessfiilly to
receive the FEMA Fire Grant for these items. We can no longer wait for the possibility of receiving a
grant. We need to start the transition now.
Our proposal is as follows:
Zst step.
Purchase an upgrade for our cascade filling system to fill high pressure bottles. Currently our system
is only capable of filling low pressure bottles. Switching to high pressure allows us to have more air
capacity in the same size bottles.
To upgrade we need to go to a 5000 PSI system vs our current 4500. We also need to add an OSHA
approved fill station.
• The cost of upgrade high pressure bottles is: $2,685.00 less $350.00 trade in value for the
bottles we currently have = $2,335.00
• Fill station: $4,250.00
• Labor / trip charge: $1,000.00
• Total Cost for Stage 1: $7,585.00
• (Price quotelcomparisons are attached)
All money's are to be used from the Pequot Lakes Fire Department budget. We will be taking this out
of our capital outlay account.
We will still be able to fill our current air bottles with this upgraded system.
Benefit:
This will increase our working time with air packs. We will go from 30 minute working time to 45
minute working time.
45 minute air bottles are actually smaller and weigh less than our current 30 minute bottles, causing
less fatigue and stress on the firefighter.
This is the 1 • step needed to eventually switch over to the new high pressure air packs. Step 2 will
involve switching our current air packs to high pressure 45 minute bottles. We are currently working
on getting quotes and pricing for the best possible way to do this.
