PEQUOT LAKES
COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
2oi8 UPDATE
COMMENT SHEET
ADD SECTION NAME COMMENTS PERTAIN TO:
Integrated Growth Plan-EDC and Economy Task Force Input
Begin typing here:
1. We would recommend deleting the reference to agriculture in the integrated growth plan. The area to
the north and west of the city outside of the city limits has agricultural use, but we questioned the
importance economically within the city limits at this time.
2. Preserving the natural beauty through conservation and protection in development is important, but
where development occurs, efforts to re-establish vegetation, trees, etc. should be considered through
ordinance and planning. Plants and trees are renewable resources if planning for the replacement is
managed.
3. Pequot has limited lakeshore property and redevelopment/improvement of existing homes and cabins
should be encouraged for livability and increased tax base.
4. As in the infrastructure section, infill and increased density within the zone of city provided sewer and
water should be encouraged to minimize environmental impact as well as maximize use of existing city
services.
5. Neighborhoods within the city and sense of community should be an objective of the growth plan. It
reduces dependence on the automobile and provides a quality of life/sense of being. It also provides a
market for local businesses. Quality of life factors such as parks, sidewalks, etc. are an integral part.
6. "Industrial" expansion should continue to be an objective, but much of today's economic growth
involves light manufacturing and high tech businesses. Providing the infrastructure for those type of
businesses, especially in the area of high speed intemet, will be vital for future economic growth in our
community.
7. Increase in tax base for our city can be accomplished with integrating business growth along with
increased access to housing for the employees. An integrated growth plan should address a
combination of living, working, and playing in our community. Currently we have many who own a
business but do not live here, employees of businesses out of town, and visitors. Encouraging growth of
families who do all three here will go far in providing residents who have ownership in the community and
are active.
