i. The subject property does not contain any known significant historical or
ecological value.
i2. The subject property is adjacent to property zoned "Forest Management" to the
east and south and"Public"to the north. The property across State Highway 371 is
zoned "Public", while the property directly north of that property is zoned
"Commercial" and "Light Industrial". The proposed reclassification is not
considered"spot zoning."
i3. The proposed rezoning is in conformance with the City of Pequot Lakes
Comprehensive Plan.
4.The future land use map identifies the subject property as "Agriculture." The
future land use map and comprehensive were adopted prior to the Highway 37i
realignment project. The new highway is located adacent to the west of the subject
property. The City has
not initiated applications onbehalf of private property owners at this time. The City is
focused on the City-owned property identified in this amendment.
Chair Hallan stated the City cannot make the request for property they do not own. The
property owner should be requesting to be included in the Overlay District. Mr. Burslie
stated technically the City does have the authority to rezone any property in the City.
The City has not reached out to private property owners;the City is focused on these two
parcels.
Planning Commission Member Leckband is troubled the amendment is to only include
those two parcels and doesn't address any other property along 37i. He would like to
see some type of defining language that states this Overlay District is bounded by or
MINUTES 5
Pequot Lakes Planning Commission
May 3i, 2oi8
