ORDINANCE NUMBER�8-_, SECOND SERIES ' <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAP'rER��OF THE CITY CODE ', <br /> ESTABLISHING AN <br /> OFFISTE SIGN OVERI.AY DISTRICT <br /> The City Council of the City of Pequot Lakes does ordain as follows: '� <br /> Section �. Pur�ose and Intent: The purpose and intent of this ordinance is to � <br /> amend Chapter i�of the Pequot Lakes City Code by creating a new Section i�-6.9, ' <br /> establishing an Offsite Sign Overlay District. <br /> Section 2. Section ��-6.9 Offsite Sign Overlay District shall be created and read as , <br /> follows: '� <br /> i�-6.9 Offsite Sign Overlav District(OS) <br /> i. Purpose and Intent• The�urpose of the Offsite Sign Overlav District is to <br /> establish a limited area with safe visibilitv from Minnesota Highwav��� <br /> where offsite si�ns are allowed while�reserving and protectin�the health. <br /> safet�and general welfare of the people of the citv and their uropertv therein <br /> situate.The cit�finds: <br /> a. That allowing offsite signs with visibilitv from Minnesota Hi�hwav��1 <br /> serves the public interest b�providin��ovnortunities to businesses <br /> located in the citXs historic downtown(among other entities and <br /> organizations) which is bwassed b�.hi�hway.to reach travelers <br /> thereon thus�romotin$the economic vitalitv of the citv's downtown. <br /> b. That the Cit�reaffirms the important governmental interests served bv <br /> �enerallv urohibitin�offsite si.gns in the citv as set forth in Section ��- <br /> � �,but finds that such interests should Xield to the public benefit that <br /> would be realized in allowing offsite si�ns on a limited basis in the <br /> narrowlv-defined area included in the Offsite Sign Overlay District; <br /> c. That a minimum distance of 2 00o feet between offsite si�ns to be <br /> located within the Offsite Sign OverlaX District is necessary because the <br /> offsite signs will primarily be visible to traffic traveling at hi�h rates of <br /> s�eed on Minnesota Highway��i and allowin�offsite sig,ns at more <br /> frec�uent intervals would constitute an unacceptable risk of distraction <br /> to drivers. <br /> 2. Establishment of Offsite Si�n OverlaY.District: The followin� <br /> establishes the Offsite Sign OverlaX District. These properties are also <br /> identified on the Offsite Si�n Overla�District man. <br /> a. That part of the Northeast Quarter of the Northwest Quarter(NE�/4 <br /> NW 1/4�, Section 23,Townshi� �36 Range 2A, Crow Win�Countv. <br />
