PEQUOT LAKES AREA FIRE BOARD <br /> MEETING MINUTES APRIL 25,2018 <br /> The first quarter PLAFB meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Chairman Peterson.The minutes <br /> from the last meeting were not read due to a motion by Sodd,second by Benson,motion passed. <br /> The Board welcomed Patrick Wussow,new City Administrator/Clerk for the Ciiy of Breery Point to <br /> our group. <br /> The first quarter fire call report totaled 12 calis.By types,there were 4 detectors going off,2 <br /> structure flres,2 mutual aid structure fires,2 motor vehicle fires,l gas leak.&1 assist police with a <br /> snowmobile accident/injury. By location,4 to Pequot Lakes,2 to Jenkins City,2 to Loon lake <br /> Township,2 to Nisswa for mutuat aid,and 1 to City of Breery Point.Four bills were sent that totaled <br /> $1500.00.Last year,during this time period the Department responded to 20 calls. <br /> The training report totaled 27 hours. By types,9 hours live house bum,6 hours each to a driver <br /> training,tool operation review,&radio operation meeting,3 hou�s fire extinguisher operation, <br /> scene set-up,&hose cross-lay hose bed pattern meeting,3 hours pipeline safety,3 hours EMR <br /> refresher,grass&utility truck preparation for grass&brush fire season meeting,and 3 hours blood <br /> cont�ol/landing zone tactics meeting. <br /> The first quarter financial statement was�eviewed.The$17,622.00 capital outiay was for the <br /> purchase of our side-by-side utility vehicle and a trailer to transport it.A donation from Pelican <br /> Lakes Co�servation Club paid for the vehicle and the trailer was paid for by donation letter receipts. <br /> All other expenses were typical at this time.Mayor Adams motioned to app�ove the report,second <br /> by Bob Olson,motion passed. <br /> Fire personnel/operation report was discussed as listed on the agenda.Chief Nelson added that our <br /> 5 recently hired fire fighters all completed instrudion&passed tests for Fi�e Fighter I&Fire Fighter <br /> II classes.They are Josh Cameron,Dalton Engholm,Evan Hayes,Ullie Pearo,&Nate Schwankl. <br /> Chairman Peterson informed the Board that a newly formed organization(MnFire Gearing Up for <br /> Health) recently sent the Department a letter describing their services and concerns for fire fighters <br /> needs not currentiy addressed by our State.This group is headed by George Esbensen,a past <br /> President of the Minnesota Fire Chiefs Association. Chief Nelson personally knows Mr.Esbenssen. <br /> Administrator Wussow asked what our Department does not have to protect our personnel from <br /> hazardous materials that can cause cancer&other chronic illness,including mental health <br /> challenges. Our Department is weli equipped with protective gear&training to assure we are safe. <br /> Some Board members were under an assumption this new organization may be a scam to sQil us <br /> equipment or services not necessarily needed.That possibility may exist. <br /> Our 2017 AFG grant application for a new tanker truck has been denied.The Department is <br /> currentiy trying to determine what went wrong with our application and why we were eliminated <br /> eariy in the process.We are planning to correct issues and re-submit a similar grant request in <br /> 2018. <br /> There was no new business,questions,or comments to discuss. <br />
