MINUTES
PEQUOT LAKES PLANNING COMMISSION/
BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
REGULAR MEETING
MARCH i5, 2oi8
PRESENT:Andrew Birch, Mark Hallan, Douglas Leckband, Mark Mortenson, Nathan
Norton, Brian Wallin and Wesley Wilson. ABSENT: None.
CITY PLANNER: Justin Burslie, NJPA
ZONING SPECIALIST: Dawn Bittner
COUNCIL LIAISON: Jerry Akerson
The meeting was called to order by Chair Hallan at 6:0o p.m.
COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE:
Mr. Burslie explained the City Council has directed the Planning Commission to update
the Comprehensive Plan. The Planning Commission will review 2 or 3 sections of the
existing Plan eachnonth with the goal to hold the Public Hearing toward the end of the
year. We have invited various community members and committee members to provide
input. We have received written comments from the Economic Development
CommissYon and the Economy Task Force, as well as the City Administrator. Chair
Hallan stated he wouid first take specific comments from the Planning Commission
Members and then take comments by section.
TRANSPORTATION SECTION:
Planning Commission Member Birch stated he would like to see Complete Streets
adopted as part of the Transportation plan.
Planning Commission Member Leckband stated the terms`urban'and`rural' are used
throughout the Comprehensive Plan and felt they should be defined.
Mr. Burslie explained a Comprehensive Plan is a long range visioning document for the
City. A Comprehensive Plan is different than the Zoning Ordinance. It is not the letter
of the law but more of a policy document so there will not be definitions included. The
urban area would be defined as the central business district or the original City of
Pequot Lakes and the area outside of that would be the rural area.
Intent—no comments.
MINUTES 1
Pequot Lakes Planning Commission
March i5, 2oi8
