Call Meetinq to Order <br /> The meeting was called to order by Chair Jurchen at 8:02 a.m. <br /> 2. Approve EDC Minutes <br /> �,,r COMMISSIONER LUBKE MOVED TO APPROVE THE JANUARY 16, <br /> 2018 ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION MINUTES. <br /> COMMISSIONER LINDHOLM SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION <br /> CARRIED 4-0. <br /> 3. Broadband/Fiber Optic Needs Assessment <br /> Bill Coleman from Community Technology Advisors presented the results <br /> of the Broadband/Fiber Optic Survey results to the Commission. Mr. <br /> Coleman noted the majority of the businesses that responded to the <br /> survey indicated there is a need for bringing better broadband to the <br /> community. <br /> Discussion ensued regarding the importance of latency, fiber optics being <br /> the superior medium to bring higher speeds to customers, and whether <br /> the business owners are willing to pay for the intemet speed they need. A <br /> consensus of the Commission agreed that the lack of technical education <br /> and knowledge by customers could have an impact on how customers <br /> view their intemet service and provider. <br /> Chair Jurchen noted a goal for providers should be to not only sell their <br /> product, but to educate the customers and help them utilize the product <br /> properly. <br /> � <br />
