AGENDA ITEM #10.1
city of
Pequot
Lakes— --
REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL
Report Prepared by: Nancy Malecha
Date: March 6, 2018
Subiect: Classification and Compensation Study Quotes
Report: The City's current pay structure was created and implemented in 2006
with the assista.nce of Ray Niemann. Through the years, this pay structure has
become distorted due to the addition of%2 steps and the disproportionate number of
steps between union and non-union employees. For these reasons, as well as the
need for a more cohesive internal and external equity analyses of pay and benefits,
I am requesting the City perform a classification and compensation study which
will consist of internal equity, external equity, and benefits. I recently received
proposals from the following companies for this study.
• David Drown Associates
o Fees ranging from $4,187.50 to $4,625 with NJPA discount.
• Springsted Inc.
o Fees ranging from $6,700 to $8,200.
I reviewed the proposals and recommend the City hire David Drown Associates to
perform a classification and compensation study. There are currently funds
available in the Administration Department Contract Services Budget for this
expenditure. The proposals are available to the Council upon request.
Council Action Requested: Council motion to hire David Drown Associates to
perform a classification and compensation study for the City with fees ranging
from $4,187.50 to $4,625 with the NJPA discount.
