Economic Development Commission Minutes
December 19, 2017 I
Page 3 of 5 I,
-----------------------------------------------------------
a benefit, although we need revenue from a commercial base also. The School Board
values this concept.
Sheila Haverkamp stated BLAEDC did an analysis of the Pequot Lakes Industrial ,
Park in 2008 and ha.s someone updating this analysis. She will provide the new '
information when it is complete.
When asked, Mr. Burslie stated the City needs to decide where the focus should be, ,
whether infill in the existing Business Park or expanding into the new one. An
interesting concept would be to send out an RFP saying this is Pequot Lakes, stating
what is interesting and unique about the City, send it out nationally and see if anyone '
has any interest in developing the site, as opposed to the City spending resources, ''
building infrastructure, and subdividing the lots.
Sheila Haverkaznp doesn't think the City should plat this. Schematics should be
developed with different scenarios for the City's visions. We would then ha.ve
something to show to businesses who may be interested.
Chair Jurchen sta.ted we need someone with expertise for marketing, eta We aze not I
qualified to do this. We need to spend money on economic development. ,
Commissioner Lindholm stated the City needs to be ready when someone comes to
the table. Sheila Haverkamp needs guidance of the vision the City wants and needs. ,
Nancy Malecha stated she will conta.ct WSN to provide 2 or 3 schematics. Funding
for this would come from the Business Park Fund.
Council Member Pederson passed out the concept for the salt shed in the new i
maintenance building azea and wondered if this would fit into the visual plan for this '
azea. There aze other areas with sufficient space that could be less visible that are ,
available. Mayor Adams sta.ted there is no landscaping included with his handout. '
Nancy Malecha stated the City looked at all the locations in great detail.
Commissioner Lindholm asked if the Council is awaze of the discussions that have
been taking place at the EDC. Nancy Malecha stated the Council gave direction for i
the EDC to look at this azea and the Council receives the Minutes.
Commissioner Lindholm asked if there is a sense of urgency for the new maintenance
facility. Nancy Malecha replied the City is receiving 6 additional miles of roads,
more equipment, additional personnel, and outgrowing our needs at City Hall and do
not have more space. CSAH 11 is the gateway into the City. There may also be new
streets for development northeast of City Hall.
Mayor Adams pointed out there are other products available other than salt; this may
be a non-issue in the future.
