Pe cZuot MEM
q O
Lakes—
TO: Cullen Lakes Association
East Twin Lake Association
Mayo Lake Association
Sibley Lake Association
West Twin La.ke Association
FROM: Dawn Bittner, Zoning Specialist
DATE: November 14, 2017
RE: Short-term Property Rental
This past sumrner, it was brought to our attention that numerous properties ha.ve rented
their homes on VRBO,Airbnb, etc. The property owners were not aware that Pequot
Lakes has an Ordinance prohibiting more tha.n four leases per dwelling, per year as noted
on the following excerpt of Chapter 17, Section 5-1, 6 D:
Section 17-5.1 GENERAL
6. The following provisions apply to all zoning districts:
D. Unless specifically allowed,no more than four leases per year, per
dwelling are allowed.
In 2018,the City will remain diligent in enforcing the Land Use Ordinance regarding
these type of violations that are brought to our attention. The Enforcement Section is
available for review on the City's website at www.pec,uotlakes-mn.gov on the City Code
&Policies sidebar under Cha.pter 17, Section 12.
We are asking each of our Lake Associations to include this information in their
upcoming newsletters and meetings so property owners are aware of this prior to
accepting deposits for future rentals. These short-term rentals did become an issue in
2017 due to noise, increased boat trc, etc. The City wants everyone to enjoy our
beautiful lakes, but not at another's expense.
Please feel free to conta.ct me with any questions. Thank you for your assistance.
463 8 Main Street
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
dbittner(rr,pequotlakes-mn.gov
218-568-6699
