M
PEQUOT LADS FIRE DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 6, 2010 MEETING
The monthly meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 27 members
were present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved by a motion by
Mike Peterson, second by Wendt, motion passed.
Truck and equipment checks were discussed. All trucks were good tonight but there are
notes to mention. Tanker 2 has a leaking rear fill valve. The portable generator on the
water tender does not start well. Tanker 3 rear dump valve is operable and the oil check
dipstick was broke off. There is a battery charger at the Breezy station now.
Financial report was our new checking balance tonight is $10584.51. During the month,
we paid bills for $20.00 for registration at the Brainerd Cuyuna Range meeting, paid
Montrose fire $1750.00 for used air packs, and paid $9.58 for office supplies of poster
board and markers. We deposited $100.00 from Larry Oaks. The fire fund balance is at
about $78,000. The scholarship fund balance remains at $1803.65. Fire fighters owing
money for pancake food supplies are Evenson for $28.40, Nelson for $28.40, Rickard for
$28.40, and Oaks for $33.60. Evenson motioned to approve the report, second by Loven,
motion passed.
The new hurst tool on Engine 1 is out of service tonight as if fell on the concrete floor
when the compartment door was opened. A hydraulic hose was crimped and will need
repair. The old tool is back in service.
We received a $100.00 donation from Claire and Craig Nagel for correspondence tonight.
Also Tom will cancel a contract with a firm for supplying rugs for the floor in our area.
Their contract fee was $56.00 per month to maintain clean rugs. It was decided we should
purchase rugs if we decide they are needed.
The safety topic tonight was to dress properly for winter condition fire calls. Everyone
was advised to take an extra moment to put on warm clothes when responding. Also be
careful for slippery conditions.
A discussion was held on our last two fire incidents. Engine 1 froze up at our Saturday
morning fire call. The power was out when we received the call and the garage doors had
to be manually opened. The door for Engine 1 can be opened by holding the chain release
tight and lifting the door. The other two doors can be opened by pulling the chain release
and lifting the door. It was mentioned we can get water at either school during a power
outage, as they have back -up generators. Loven picked up a cat from the Saturday fire
scene and brought it to our station so it could be returned to the property owner. The fire
on Saturday started under the floor when the power outage caused a circulating fan to
shut down and the air duct overheated. We lost a pike pole during this call. Tom would
like us to be aware that we trespassed on the property when we went back to look for the
missing pike pole on Sunday. Sunday's fire call was for an overheated electrical service
