Ball fields could be viewed as greenspace for a tech campus. Chair Jurchen stated housing has to be addressed for economic development. Mr. Burslie staxed ball parks are a great idea and they can be redeveloped easily in the future. He inquired how often the fields west of the school are used. Commissioner Lindholm stated they are used non-stop. Mr. Burslie stated this may be a radical idea, but if the ba11 fields are moved to another location,housing next to the school is a perFect place for additional housing. Council Member Pederson stated the City needs to determine the best use of the 80 acres; the worst thing to do is piece-meal development. Currently a low tech maintenance garage is proposed on a 5 acre parcel in the northeast corner. Tyler Glynn has noticed that a medical complex is missing in this area. There is plenty of space in this area and accessibility. A medical complex could take 20 acres. Chair Jurchen stated Essentia in Pine River is planning an expansion. This might be the time to talk with Essentia. Nancy Malecha asked Tim Houle and Mike Loven what the City needs to be aware of with development. Mr. Loven stated capacity could be an issue depending on the ' type of development. Placing the ball fields on the south end will require utilities to be run half a mile to them. Commissioner Lindholm inquired if the maintenance building could be placed next to the ball fields so garage space could be shared. Commissioner Rieck stated as a medical provider she works with Crosby, Essentia �� and Lakewood medical facilities. She isn't comfortable for Essentia having a �� monopoly. Bob Perkins suggested checking with other entities such as Breezy Point ; and Crosslake to see if they are planning to increase their medical services also. He also reminded the EDC that whatever the EDC decides for the business park technology, what is put in the ground has to be 20 to 50 years out. �, Mr. Burslie noted that if the EDC is looking at tax base, hospitals and medical I facilities don't pay taxes.
