December 28, 2009
Mayor and City Council
City of Pequot Lakes
4638 County Road ii
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
Re: Planning Commission Report
Dear Mayor and City Council,
COMMUNITYGROWTH
N S T I T U T E
Experts in Small Town Planning
The Planning Commission met for their regular December meeting, at which there were two
public hearings and other various items on the agenda that were discussed. They are forwarding
you two items for your review in this report at this time.
i. Minor Ordinance Amendments and Updating of New State Statutes; City
Pequot Lakes, applicant; Application 09-3336. The City of Pequot Lakes, once
a year, conducts a public hearing to clear up any minor issues with the Ordinance. These
are not amendments that change City policy or regulations but help ensure the document
to be clear of any errors or incorrect references. The section where a minor error has
been found is in Chapter 17, Section 11.2.
`.. The City of Pequot Lakes at this time is also updating the Ordinance to reflect changes in
state law. These changes do change City policy and regulations. The new laws create a
need to amend the Ordinance to bring them into compliance with state law. The new
laws being presented at this time relate to non - conforming lots, conditional use permits,
variances, land use permits, and requiring the establishment of an escrow account for
plats. Modifications have been made to Chapter 17, Sections 4.3, 11.6,11.7, 11.8, and 11.9.
2. Ordinance Amendment to Parking Requirements; City of Pequot Lakes,
applicant; Application 09-3389• The Planning Commission has been reviewing the
existing parking requirements. They felt that the current parking standards could be
made simpler by having fewer categories. Three categories have been created,
"Residential /Lodging ", "Office /Retail', and "Event Orientated /Civic ", each having their
own requirements. Modifications have been made to Chapter 17, Section 7.10.
The Planning Commission recommends the resolutions be approved.
If you have any questions, concerns or feedback, please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be
reached by phone at (866) 900 -3064 or by email at or marohn0communitYgrowth.net.
Sincerely,
COMMUNITY GROWTH INSTITUTE
14084 Baxter Drive, Suite 7 1 Baxter, Minnesota 56425 1 866.900.3064 1 www.communitygrowth.com
