c. Specific Service Signs, Discussion <br /> Mr. Burslie explained the Staff Report. Zoning Specialist Bittner pointed out the <br /> location of the Specific Service Signs MN/DOT will allow along the Expressway. She <br /> further explained the need for a Specific Service Sign, or a Trail Blazing Sign, for Tasty <br /> Pizza. The City has also received requests for signage along Patriot Avenue directing <br /> traffic into town. There is a Business District sign directing traffic onto Patriot Avenue. <br /> Discussion ensued regarding what type of signage could be allowed along Patriot <br /> Avenue and the number of signs: <br /> • MN/DOT will allow 8 businesses on the 2 Specific Service Signs along the <br /> F.xpressway at the Patriot Avenue exit; <br /> • Tasty Pizza needs permission from the City and the County for Trail Blazing <br /> Signs; <br /> • Other businesses have expressed the need for signage on Patriot Avenue; <br /> • Should signage be allowed for businesses visible from Patriot Avenue or just <br /> those businesses that are not visible from Patriot Avenue; <br /> • MN/DOT will allow 8 businesses on the 2 Specific Service Signs along the <br /> Expressway at the County Road i�/Patriot Avenue exit; <br /> • Trail Blazing Signs may be necessary at the Rasmussen Road intersection; <br /> • Trail Blazing Signs may be necessary at the intersection of County Road 1�and <br /> Patriot Avenue; <br /> • How many signs do we want to allow; <br /> • The signs need to be 30o feet apart; <br /> • How many individual businesses per sign; <br /> • Who should get them and why; <br /> • Limit to restaurants,food, no specific businesses so it isn't so cluttered; most <br /> people use their smart phones; <br /> • Four businesses per sign; <br /> • First come,first served basis; <br /> • Unique sign for our identity, community character; <br /> • Bobber at top of sign,businesses listed below; <br /> • County recommended not signing businesses with a straight arrow; <br /> • Just use signs for gas and food; <br /> • Choose 3 —4locations; <br /> • Up to 4— 6 businesses per sign <br /> • Develop policy similar to the County's; <br /> • Need continuity on display. <br /> Planning Commission Member Hallan stated Highway 2g was realigned at Paynesville <br /> and suggested Staff contact the City to see what type of signage was requested. <br /> MINUTES � <br /> Pequot Lakes Planning Commission <br /> July 20, 2oi� <br />
