City Council Minutes January 5, 2010 Page 4 of 10 �, ----------------------------- The Fire Chief noted that the Pequot Lakes Relief Association has purchased 5 used SCBA's for $1,750 and have donated these to the fire department. COUNCIL MEMBER NAGEL MOVED TO ACCEPT FIVE SCBA UNITS DONATED TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FROM THE PEQUOT LAKES RELIEF ASSOCIATION. COUNCIL MEMBER MALECHA SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. 7.2. Request from Poplar Township for Fire Service Chief Nelson explained that Poplar Township has requested information on contracting fire services from Pequot Lakes Fire Department. He noted that a bid has been provided for services. Council Member Ryan voiced his concern regarding how the addition of another township would affect the voting process for the Cities of Pequot Lakes and Breezy Point. Council Member Ryan suggested looking at the contract formula in regard to how cities and townships are charged prior to adding another township. Council Member Nagel questioned if the Fire Department would be placing the city in danger due to the long distance � drive to Poplar Township. 8.1. Request to Hire Part Time Officer Chief Braam requested Council authorization to hire Michael Marotta as a part time officer to replace the vacancies made by Officers Murdock and Silgjord. COUNCIL MEMBER MALECHA MOVED TO HIRE MICHAEL MAROTTA AS A PART TIME POLICE OFFICER EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 1, 2010. COUNCIL MEMBER NAGEL SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. 8.2. PERA Resolution MAYOR ADAMS MOVED TO ADOPT RESOLUTION 10-02 PUBLIC EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION POLICE OFFICER DECLARATION FOR MICHAEL MAROTTA. COUNCIL MEMBER MALECHA SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. Mayor Adams thanked the police officers, reserves, and volunteers who participated in the Christmas for Kids program. Council Member Nagel `.- stated he was pleased to see the reduction in traffic death totals in the state of Minnesota.
