City Council Minutes <br /> January 5, 2010 <br /> Page 4 of 10 <br /> �, ----------------------------- <br /> The Fire Chief noted that the Pequot Lakes Relief Association has <br /> purchased 5 used SCBA's for $1,750 and have donated these to the fire <br /> department. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER NAGEL MOVED TO ACCEPT FIVE SCBA UNITS <br /> DONATED TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FROM THE PEQUOT LAKES <br /> RELIEF ASSOCIATION. COUNCIL MEMBER MALECHA SECONDED <br /> THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br /> 7.2. Request from Poplar Township for Fire Service <br /> Chief Nelson explained that Poplar Township has requested information <br /> on contracting fire services from Pequot Lakes Fire Department. He noted <br /> that a bid has been provided for services. <br /> Council Member Ryan voiced his concern regarding how the addition of <br /> another township would affect the voting process for the Cities of Pequot <br /> Lakes and Breezy Point. Council Member Ryan suggested looking at the <br /> contract formula in regard to how cities and townships are charged prior to <br /> adding another township. Council Member Nagel questioned if the Fire <br /> Department would be placing the city in danger due to the long distance <br /> � drive to Poplar Township. <br /> 8.1. Request to Hire Part Time Officer <br /> Chief Braam requested Council authorization to hire Michael Marotta as a <br /> part time officer to replace the vacancies made by Officers Murdock and <br /> Silgjord. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER MALECHA MOVED TO HIRE MICHAEL MAROTTA <br /> AS A PART TIME POLICE OFFICER EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 1, 2010. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER NAGEL SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION <br /> CARRIED 5-0. <br /> 8.2. PERA Resolution <br /> MAYOR ADAMS MOVED TO ADOPT RESOLUTION 10-02 PUBLIC <br /> EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION POLICE OFFICER <br /> DECLARATION FOR MICHAEL MAROTTA. COUNCIL MEMBER <br /> MALECHA SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br /> Mayor Adams thanked the police officers, reserves, and volunteers who <br /> participated in the Christmas for Kids program. Council Member Nagel <br /> `.- stated he was pleased to see the reduction in traffic death totals in the <br /> state of Minnesota. <br />
