Commissioner Wilson stated he spoke with three residents who were all opposed to the <br /> idea of billboards on the highway. <br /> Commissioner Engels stated he likes the rural character of corridor. Not in favor of <br /> billboards at this time. <br /> Commissianer Habein stated he feels like billboards would"cheapen"the look of the <br /> area. They would also obstruct the view of the tree line. <br /> Commissioner Norton stated that he understands why businesses would be in favor of <br /> the billboards but he is not in favor of them at this time for reasons stated. He stated <br /> the city could e�lore the possibility of constructing a monument sign at the south <br /> entrance of Patriot Avenue. <br /> Commissioner Wallin stated that we are only in the infancy of the realignment and he is <br /> not in favor of billboards at this time. <br /> General consensus of the planning commission regarding the following items: <br /> i. Large billboard type signage is not consistent with the"north woods"and"rural" <br /> character referenced in the comprehensive plan. <br /> 2. Large signage could create safety concerns for motorists traveling at a high rate of <br /> speed. <br /> 3. The realignment was only recently completed and the city should not rush to any <br /> decisions on off-site signage on the new highway. <br /> Chair Engles called for a straw poll as to whether or not the planning <br /> commission should recommend the city council pursue amending the <br /> ordinance to allow off-site signs in the "Public"Zone. <br /> All members voted"nay." <br /> OLD BUSINESS: None. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES: <br /> A motion was made by Planning Commission Member Habein, seconded by <br /> Planning Commission Member Wilson,to approve the August��, 20�� <br /> Minutes.
