Vacant shifts could be due to court time, time off, <br /> trainings, special events, or other miscellaneous details. So <br /> far in 2017, part-time officers have worked 418 hours <br /> which equates to $9,215. By reducing these hours, <br /> approximately 26 shifts would be without an officer <br /> working. <br /> We believe that highly trained officers help the PLPD <br /> provide more efficient, professional, and overall better <br /> service to our community. The MN POST Board requires <br /> mandatory training such as emergency driving, use of <br /> force, defensive tactics, and firearms. Elective trainings <br /> would include medical training, investigating assaults and <br /> sexual assaults, burglaries, civil issues, drug cases and <br /> other major investigations. Lack of proper training exposes <br /> the City to a higher risk of liability. Currently our officers <br /> work their regular shifts in addition to attending elective <br />
