Government Drive Memo
Page 2
------------------------- - - - - --
- WSN wants all of us to be aware that this rehabilitation
approach could pose the following challenges, which we
may have to deal with if they occur:
There will be a reliance on the pavement that remains
after the construction contractor mills 1 -1 /2 inches of the
existing pavement to support the construction equipment. If
this does not happen, there may need to be more removal
and new pavement than initially anticipated.
With this pavement rehabilitation approach, there are
no added storm drainage improvements and the existing
drainage patterns will basically be the same. However,
when people see new pavement, even if it is sloped, the
same way as before, there will most likely be someone that
will complain about flooding problems caused by it.
Due to the budget, there is no new sidewalk or curb
and gutter or sidewalk replacement anticipated. However,
there are potential American with Disabilities Act (ADA)
issues on any improvements nowadays. Especially at this
local level, they are usually complaint initiated situations
(can become legal situations). The County should be taking
care of the pedestrian ramps on the corner of Government
Drive and CSAH 11 / Main Street during their 2012
project. There are various existing "sidewalk ramps" that
could possibly be modified, but these will need to be
reviewed during design. If we start with complete
replacements, we may end up needing to remove and
replace all of the sidewalks.
