Economic Development Commission Minutes <br />January 17, 2017 <br />Page 4 of 6 <br />----------------------------------------------------------- <br /> <br />6. Thriving Communities Initiative Update <br /> <br />a. Funding Sources <br />Nancy Malecha reported the City has received $14,800 without the grant funding toward the <br />TCI Program, leaving a deficit of $2,200. Chair Jurchen stated he should know in a couple <br />of weeks regarding the grant monies. <br /> <br />b. Key strategies for Economy, Quality of Life, and Workforce sectors <br /> <br />c. Drafting of mission/vision statement for the City <br />Nancy Malecha stated the Initiative Foundation is looking for a mission/vision statement. <br />If the Commissioners have any ideas, they were urged to send them to Dan Frank. <br /> <br />Commissioner Lindholm stated he has heard it is really hard to be new in this <br />community. We have an identity crisis. <br /> <br />Commissioner Lubke stated he didn’t think it is as bad as it once was. We need to be <br />aware of it and focus on that. <br /> <br />Commissioner Holley stated she surveys people who have recently moved to the area and <br />the main comment she hears is that people are very friendly, call them by name and/or <br />make them feel important. <br /> <br />7. School Update <br /> <br />Commissioner Lindholm stated they are rolling into the budget season. March 4 is the PTA <br />fundraiser and encouraged everyone to attend. February 15 is the High School Career Fair; <br />they are looking for any employer or business person to volunteer. His focus is on the next <br />legislative session. <br /> <br />They currently are working on an internship type structure at the school with a grant from <br />Rural Minnesota CEP. <br /> <br />8. Chamber Update <br /> <br />Chair Jurchen stated Jenna Crawford couldn’t attend today. She has been named the <br />Regional Tourism Director for the Chamber. Cindy Nelson is helping with duties in Pequot <br />Lakes. <br /> <br />8. BLAEDC Update <br />
