Economic Development Commission Minutes
June 20, 2017
-----------------------------------------------------------
Public Infrastructure Program would be for new businesses moving into the Business
Park.
Mayor Adams explained the City has been looking at new infrastructure in a street
quadrant from East Woodman Street to Main Street and Old Highway 371 to
Government Drive that may also need higher speeds and wondered if this would
qualify for a grant. Discussion ensued regarding redevelopment of streets around
Trailside Park and lack of fiber in the downtown retail area. It was determined that
the Business Park improvements and the downtown/Trailside Park area are two
separate projects and would be two separate applications.
Sheila Haverkamp asked if the EDC needed to obtain additional bids since the
amount has been reduced to $49,000. Nancy Malecha stated the EDC could make a
recommendation to the Council since new information has been received and request j
the Council remove the additional bid directive. Ms. Malecha has contacted Charter
i
and CTC for bids.
Mr. Heyer noted there are webinars scheduled for the broadband grant program and
he will send Nancy Malecha the link.
4. Potential Development South of Business Park
Mayor Adams noted that when lots are sold in the new Business Park, construction
should be required to begin within one year or the lot reverts back to the City.
Chair Jurchen stated we should delay this discussion for another meeting.
Commissioner Lindholm asked what the process for development would be. Would
Planning and Zoning or the EDC take the lead? Ms. Malecha stated most likely both
Commissions.
5. 2018 Economic Development Budget
Nancy Malecha explained the 2017 budget included$2,500 for marketing and $7,500
for contract services(BLAEDC) for a total budget of$10,000.
Commissioner Lindholm stated in the year ahead the City needs to create a vision for
the 80 acres south of the Business Park that needs to be a budget item on someone's
plate.
Chair Jurchen stated he sees a need for marketing money, potentially for a website,
etc. and suggested increasing the marketing budget by $2,500.
COMMISSIONER LUBKE MOVED TO INCREASE THE MARKETING
BUDGET FOR 2018 TO $5,000 AND HAVE THE CONTRACT SERVICES
REMAIN AT $7,500 FOR A TOTAL BUDGET OF $12,500. COMMISSIONER
RIECK SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5-0.
