Highway 371 Update
Randy Shoen from Mathiowetz Construction updated the Council on the
Highway 371 Expansion Project. Mr. Shoen explained that the new lanes
of Highway 371, through most of Pequot Lakes, are now open and
additional signs and striping still need to be done. Mayor Adams
addressed concerns with the bike trail. Mr. Shoen noted that these types
of concerns should be directed to the DNR. Council Member Swanson
questioned why Highway 371 was closed at County Road 17. Mr. Shoen
explained that they need to rebuild the intersection and it will be closed for
the next couple of months.
5.2. Mayo Lake Nature Preserve Forest Managements Plan & Fire Tower
Update
Keith Simar updated the Council on the Mayo Lake Nature Preserve
Forest Management Plan noting that several trees have fallen due to
storms and light clean up can be done by volunteers. He explained that
Dean Maki of the DNR had recommended some timber harvest in the
management plan that was written for the City. Mr. Simar suggested
taking a "light on the land" approach rather than a lot of clearing with a
commercial harvest.
Mayor Adams agreed noting there seems to be more people using the
Park.
