The Police Department is requesting two additional <br />amendments to the cell phone policy. <br />Page 3 — Employees receiving a cell phone stipend are <br />expected to: <br />1. Add "and has a smart phone" at the end of the <br />sentence. <br />2. Delete entire language "Make the cell phone number <br />public as long as the cell phone holder is an employee of <br />the City of Pequot Lakes." <br />Personal phone numbers are protected data under the Data <br />Practices Act unless the employee signs a release stating <br />�.. that the number can be made public. An employee who <br />chooses to use their own phone and be reimbursed by the <br />City is requested to sign the Cell Phone Policy stating that <br />the number would be made public. <br />I spoke with the HR Director of the League of Minnesota <br />Cities regarding the deletion of the language under item #2. <br />Comments from the League of Minnesota Cities: <br />HR Director Laura Kushner said the best option for our city would be to give <br />the officer's a city issued phone and not reimburse them for their personal <br />phone if they don't want that number to be public. Making the numbers <br />public is essential to the functions of your police department specifically <br />regarding on -call availability. Also, if the officer was reimbursed for his <br />personal cell phone and those records were to be subpoenaed, their <br />private calls may not be considered public data, but it is going to be a <br />
